Pro Football Hall of Fame Senior Nominees
2007 Pro Football Hall of Fame senior nominees announced
Canton, OH (Sports Network) - Detroit Lions tight end Charlie Sanders and Cleveland Browns guard Gene Hickerson have been selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Seniors Committee as finalists for election with the Class of 2007.
Sanders and Hickerson will join 15 modern-era candidates as finalists for induction. The Class of 2007 will be announced on February 3, 2007 -- the day before Super Bowl XLI in Miami.
A seven-time Pro Bowl pick in 10 NFL seasons from 1968-77, Sanders finished his career with 336 catches for 4,817 yards with 31 touchdowns. He retired as Detroit's all-time leader in receptions and was voted to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1970s.
Hickerson was a standout on the offensive line for the Browns from 1958-60 and 1962-73. The six-time Pro Bowl choice was selected to the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 1960s and helped pave the way for Hall of Fame running backs Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell and Leroy Kelly.
The last two years both Seniors Committee nominees were elected. Benny Friedman and Fritz Pollard were enshrined in 2005 and John Madden and Rayfield Wright were honored this year.
