Don Shula: Coach

Don Shula is the National Football League's all-time leader in games won leading teams in Baltimore (7) and Miami (26) to 347 victories in 526 games over the course of 33 seasons (including 19 playoff teams and three League championships). Perhaps, the most significant of all of Don's accomplishments during those 33 seasons is that there were only two seasons in which victories did not exceed losses. As coach of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, Don led his team through the National Football League's only undefeated and untied season as the Dolphins won 17 games without losing any. Don Coached in a record six Super Bowls and 36 playoff games and his 328 regular-season victories and 347 all-time victories (for a career winning percentage of .665 and an average of 10 victories per season) are both records.

Don was a runningback at John Carroll University and chose to seek a career in professional football instead of coaching and teaching high school in Canton, Ohio when he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played seven seasons as a defensive back for the Browns, Colts and Redskins. After his professional football career, Don became an assistant coach at the University of Virginia and five years later became the National Football League's youngest coach when he was hired by the then Baltimore Colts at the age of 33. Don Shula ruled the field with an iron fist as the fire burned within him and he was as capable as any in getting the most out of his players. Don Shula led by example and was so dedicated to winning that he missed only one day of work over the course of his 33 years of coaching in the National Football League. Don commands respect from players and coaches alike as he has always been the type to inspire people around him to reach their maximum potential.

In his "All Pro Sports Football Series" DVD, Don shares his life story and shares with us the techniques he used in performing as a coach in professional football and explains the concepts, technical aspects and strategies of the game of football and what it takes to be the best that you can be.
